Honoring the Life of Marcus
On May 24th, my baby brother Marcus was tragically taken from us in a deadly shooting at only 25 years old. Less than a year after losing our mother, our family is now facing another heartbreaking loss that honestly still doesn’t feel real.
Marcus was funny, loving, protective, and full of life. Football was a huge part of who he was. He proudly played for Rainier Beach, Wolfpack, and Shasta College, and anybody who knew Marcus knew how much passion he had for the game. He was talented, driven, and always brought energy everywhere he went, on and off the field. He had big dreams, a big heart and the type of smile and personality people naturally gravitated toward.
Most importantly, Marcus was deeply loved by everybody who knew him. He leaves behind a young daughter, family that adored him, and so many people whose lives will never be the same without him here.
As the oldest sibling, I’ve been trying my best to stay strong and hold everything together, but truthfully, this loss has broken me. We had no life insurance for our mother or for Marcus, and now we’re trying to give my baby brother the memorial and burial he deserves while still grieving our mom.
Now it’s just me and my little sister Janea left from my mother’s children, and that reality hurts more than words can explain.
Gun violence in Seattle needs to stop. Innocent people are losing their lives and families like mine are being left shattered forever. Marcus deserved to live. He was loved, needed and taken far too soon.
We are asking for help with funeral and memorial expenses during this incredibly difficult time. Anything helps right now, truly whether it’s a donation, a prayer, or simply sharing this page.
Thank you for helping us honor Marcus and support our family through one of the hardest moments of our lives.
