My name is Bethany and I am organizing this fundraiser for my sister Jessica Thompson and niece Sophie Rivera so they have one less thing to manage during this difficult time. All proceeds will go to them!

I am writing this with a shattered heart, seeking support during an unimaginable time. Marcos—a beloved husband, devoted father, cherished son, and loyal friend was taken from us far too soon. On Sunday January 4th, 2026 Marcos was found in an incoherent state and taken by ambulance where tests showed his blood sugar was out of control. It turns out he was an undiagnosed diabetic and was on the verge of a diabetic coma. They eventually gave an official diagnosis of DKA. They worked to stabilize him and it initially seemed to be working but by early Monday morning he was placed on a ventilator and his blood pressure had plummeted and he eventually coded and the medical team was thankfully able to bring him back. However, his body just couldn't hold on. In the last few months he met with the pastor of our church and discussed arranging to be baptized in a private service with just family and close friends. While the circumstances weren't what he had planned, we were luckily and thankfully able to have him baptized by our pastor in the hospital surrounded by family that loved him before he passed.

This devastating loss has left his family and loved ones struggling to process the heartbreak and face the challenges ahead.

Marcos was a truly extraordinary person. He had a heart full of love, always putting his family, and friends first. He and my sister met back in high school in 2004. They went their separate ways but remained friends and found love once again many years later. In 2018 they made it official. In that time he was the father that stepped up. He helped raise my niece Sophie since age 2 and if his love for those two could have saved him, he surely would have lived forever. He was the perfect match for my sister. He truly devoted himself to her and my niece and loved them unconditionally. He was the father and husband that they deserved and even more.

He was a quiet man until he got to know you and then he'd talk your ear off. His kindness knew no bounds. He was a man who loved deeply, lived fully, and touched the lives of everyone fortunate enough to know him. His wife and daughter were his greatest joy, and he worked tirelessly to give them a life filled with love and security.

This loss has not only left an emotional void but also placed financial demands on the family. From various expenses to ensuring Marcos' family has the support they need, the costs will be overwhelming including funeral expenses, medical bills and daily bills as we all navigate a life without someone who meant so much. We humbly ask for your help during this incredibly difficult time.
