Seil Sour, better known as Mak Yay, was born March 7th, 1941 in Battambang, Cambodia. She had eight wonderful children, whom she raised all while fleeing the Khmer Rouge. She was devoted to her religion and always treated others with kindness and respect. She was a strong Buddhist, and in her free time, she loved writing Khmer poems. Mak Yay was surely a beacon of light in whatever room she walked in, always talking about past experiences, or giving us life lessons on how to be a better human being.
On June 5th, 2024 at around 5pm, Yay was admitted to the hospital after experiencing difficulty breathing, chest pain, lack of appetite, and vomiting. She fought long and hard, and on June 6th, 2024 at 2:01 AM, she took her last breath with her family by her side. Her family is grateful for all the doctors and nurses who cared for her along the way and did everything they could to keep her living for as long as possible.
We’re so devastated by Mak Yay’s passing, and we will miss her so, so much. We will remember her for her infectious smile and laugh, and we’ll forever hold her in our hearts. We love you so much, Mak Yay.
All donations will cover the funds for her services, happening in Long Beach, CA and Cambodia.
