Goal: $12,000 to Help Maddox’s Family

Maddox wasn’t just a dog — he was family. Our beloved Corgi, neighborhood legend, and unofficial mayor of Balboa Island, Maddox had a way of turning an ordinary walk into a full-on community event. Famous for riding around in his backpack wearing his signature sunglasses (clearly cooler than the rest of us), he greeted everyone like an old friend and Maddox never missed a chance to spread smiles. In 2022, he even earned his spot on the Balboa Island ferry T-shirt — because of course he did.

Recently, Maddox faced the fight of his life after suffering a ruptured disk in his low back. Surgery was done in hopes of preventing paralysis, and he was surrounded by love, optimism, and an entire community rooting for him. Even with all that heart behind him, Maddox sadly didn’t make it through the recovery.

The heartbreak has been immense, and on top of the loss, his family is facing significant medical expenses. That’s where we as a community can step in — not just to help ease the financial burden, but to honor a dog who gave so much joy, laughter, and sunshine to Newport Beach (and probably demanded treats along the way).

On top of the hardship they’re facing, his father took his first bike ride without Maddox riding in the backpack with him. During the ride, he was involved in a freak accident that caused him to crash and break his arm. He will now be out of work for eight weeks while also facing a large veterinary bill. We know Maddox was watching over his father during that first ride without him by his side, which saved him from a more serious injury.
