Honoring Lowell Ward: Funeral and Burial Support
Donation protected
UPDATE:
Services for Lowell will be held at AJ Spears Funeral Home in Cambridge, Massachusetts on Friday.
Thank you all so much for the outpouring of love and support for this wonderful friend, comrade, brother, father, grandfather and uncle.
With intense shock and grief, I'm writing to let our community know that our dear Lowell Ward suddenly passed away on Monday evening at 66 years old. We are raising money for his funeral and burial expenses and anticipate that services will be July 19th.
Lowell, born in Cambridge, Massachusetts with southern and Jamaican roots, was a loving father, brother and proud grandfather of six. He was an avid reader and historian and was working to publish his first book.
A true independent, Lowell helped build the Massachusetts Coalition of Independent Voters which spearheaded rank-choice voting and open primaries. He was a ballot access organizer for the historic presidential campaign of Lenora Fulani in 1992.
Struggling with addiction landed him in and out of prison where he fought for the human right to grow, develop and learn, earning his bachelor's degree from Boston University, a Toastmasters Award for leadership and public speaking, and where he became a peer counselor for people living with HIV/AIDS. Once out, Lowell became a Recovery Coach working for various social service agencies in Boston.
Lowell was a dearly loved comrade of Evelyn Dougherty, Sarah Bayer, Jill Klowden, Sandy Friedman and many others in our community.
