Our son, Louis Ginns IV, was taken from us far too soon after being struck by a vehicle. No words can fully capture the weight of this loss. Louis was more than a name—he was a son, a light in our lives, and a young boy full of heart, energy, and determination. Louis loved to play basketball. Even though he was a little guy, that never stopped him—he always wanted to be right in the middle of the action. We have a hoop in our backyard, and because of his height, I hadn’t raised it yet. But just days before he passed, he ran into the room and said, “Dad, Dad! Come look at this! I got a surprise for you!” I followed him outside, and he sprinted to the hoop, jumped as high as he could, and touched the bottom of it with his fingers. He was so proud. So excited. That moment—his joy, his effort, his determination—that’s who Louis was.
As we face the heartbreak of laying our son to rest, we are also faced with the unexpected financial burden of funeral and memorial expenses. We are asking for help to give Louis the homegoing he deserves—one filled with dignity, love, and remembrance. But we also want his story to matter beyond this tragedy. In honor of Louis, we are committed to advocating for safer pedestrian conditions in our communities. We want to bring attention to the dangerous areas where poor lighting, lack of safe crosswalks, and high-speed traffic converge—places where preventable tragedies happen. Our goal is to raise awareness, push for meaningful safety improvements, and help prevent other families from experiencing this kind of loss.
Although his life was cut short, Louis’s legacy will give a voice to those who have been lost to dangerous conditions for pedestrian traffic. If you are able to give, no amount is too small. If you cannot give, please consider sharing this fundraiser and keeping our family in your prayers. Thank you for helping us honor Louis’ life and carry his legacy forward. — The Ginns Family
