KSL article. ABC4 article Our hearts are broken as we announce the passing of our beloved daughter, Leina Roxanne Capanna. She sustained an unsurvivable head injury on the afternoon of Saturday, June 6. At the conclusion of a paddleboarding session at Pineview Reservoir with her Mom - Stephanie, Sister - Daphne, and Aunt - Heidi, Leina was struck in the head by a falling tree. She was immediately unconscious and unresponsive. Her Aunt, Heidi, was the first to arrive to Leina’s aid, taking control of the scene, directing bystanding helpers, and preparing Leina to receive CPR. First Responders happened to be close by the incident, and were there within minutes. They continued with life saving measures on the beach, and she was taken by ambulance to the Ogden Regional Hospital emergency room. There she received scans and imaging that were conclusive that the injury was unsurvivable. She was then transported by ambulance to Primary Children’s Hospital for further evaluation. Their results were consistent that Leina would not return from this injury. From this point we decided to proceed with organ donation which also allowed us to have more precious time with our Leina before her official passing on June 9, 2026. Matches have already been selected for Leina’s heart, liver, and both kidneys. Leina enjoyed playing soccer as part of the local SWAT organization, and also excelled in volleyball, playing for Weber Elite, Squad 49, and also making her junior high team as a seventh grader last year. She also was accepted into the chamber orchestra at North Ogden Junior High as a cello player. She worked just as hard at her music as she did at her sports. Above all of this, she was an excellent teammate and friend to everyone on any team she was a part of. She loved people with the same fiery intensity she attacked everything else in her life. This GoFundMe is to aid her family with the expenses of the hospital, Life Flight and funeral arrangements. We appreciate all the love and support we have been given by family, friends, doctors, nurses, and staff that took great care of Leina. Our hearts are broken but we know we will see our sweet girl again. Smile Like Leina.
About This Fundraiser
This fundraiser was created by Darrin Rumsey, President of SWAT Soccer, on behalf of the Capanna family following the tragic loss of their daughter, Leina Capanna, who was a valued member of the SWAT Soccer family.
Leina was a beloved teammate, friend, daughter, and sister whose life was tragically cut short after a tree fell during a family outing. Our entire club has been heartbroken by this loss, and many members of our community asked how they could help support the Capanna family during this incredibly difficult time.
Although I organized this fundraiser, 100% of the donations are intended for the Capanna family. I am organizing it solely to help our soccer community come together in support of them.
The fundraiser beneficiary is Leina's father, Deven Capanna, who will receive the donations directly through GoFundMe. These funds will be used by the Capanna family to help with funeral expenses, memorial costs, and other needs as they navigate this unimaginable loss.
Thank you for supporting the Capanna family and honoring Leina's memory through your generosity.
