We are Lawrencia and Leilani the proud daughters of Lawrence Moten and it is with heavy hearts that we share the sudden and heartbreaking passing of our father Lawrence "Poetry" Moten.
There are no perfect words to capture the kind of man our dad was. Syracuse called him a legend... and they were right. The storyteller. The encourager. The one who made you feel like the legend. He was the kind of person whose words could lift your spirit and make you believe you could conquer the world and he meant it. He was the definition of love. Of light. Of legacy.
We chose the goal of $233,400 because that number holds deep meaning for our family. It represents the 2,334 points our father scored as Syracuse’s all-time leading scorer a record he still holds today.
But to us, it’s more than a stat.
Every one of those points was earned with heart, hustle, and love for the game. He poured his soul into every bucket not for personal glory, but to bring joy to fans, to represent Syracuse with pride, and to lift up the people around him.
That number tells a story. It’s a symbol of the legacy he left behind — and now, it’s the number we’re using to help carry that legacy forward.
He gave so much of himself to others — and even now, we want to continue that spirit on his behalf.
We’re raising funds to help us carry out his final wishes and continue the spirit of giving that defined his life — especially through his passions for sports, education, and uplifting the community he loved so deeply
Thank you for being part of his story — and now, ours.
With love and gratitude,
Lawrencia & Leilani
