Lava Mason was born on July 21st, 1942 in Chicago, and for the past 25 years, she has been the heart of our family. I met her when I married her grandson, Michael Walker, and from the very beginning, she welcomed me as her own. Lava was strong, beautiful, and a woman of faith. She fought the good fight of faith and didn’t lose hope in God during this battle against her kidneys, heart, and blood system. She loved to laugh, spoke her mind, and always enjoyed the finer things in life. Five years ago, she and her husband moved to McKinney to be closer to family in the area, and those years have been filled with love, support, and countless memories. Lava was married to her husband Raymond “Pops” for 53 years…WOW! Let me tell y’all, Pops was by her side every step of the way, and the whole family made sure Grandmother knew that Pops would always be cared for and supported. Grandmother adored shopping on Amazon and cherished seeing family photos on her digital frame. Grandmother loved to look nice from head to toe, and even in her final days, she wanted to feel beautiful. I was grateful to help her do just that. Grandmother loved everyone fiercely and helped anyone in need. She was loved by all of her family so much, and she loved her “littles”—living to see over five generations, which is a beautiful blessing. Her absence leaves a huge void, and we want to honor her with the homegoing she truly deserves.

Our family traditions with Grandmother were special—Christmas mornings in pajamas, playing white elephant, and sharing laughter over gifts. Thanksgiving and Easter were filled with food, fun, and family, and she especially loved watching the kids hunt for Easter eggs in the backyard. Grandmother loved trips to Winstar, whether for birthdays or just because. These moments brought our family closer and created memories we’ll cherish forever. Now, as we prepare to say goodbye, we want to give her a beautiful farewell that reflects the love she gave to all of us.

We are raising funds to cover the full home-going service, including flowers, food, keepsakes, permit fees, and additional expenses that Pops has or will incur during this process. Thank you for caring enough to read our story. Your prayers mean the world to our family, and we are grateful for any support you can offer. Thank you in advance for helping us honor Lava Mason and for keeping our family in your thoughts.
