John “Koa” Kolomona Kaukeouli Borge was born on April 20, 1971, in Honolulu. He was the son of Loving mother Suelyn Lee Kalua and Loving father Patrick James Borge, with a bonus dad, Jerry Kalua, who helped shape the man he became. He was a beloved brother to Kanoe Bender ,Joanna Ines, Janel Dumlao, Jocelyn Borge Perreira ,Jason Borge, and Patrick James Borge Jr. He was preceded in death by his brother, Jarvis Borge.
Koa met the love of his life, Haroldine, in 1993 when her cousin Jeff brought him over to the house. Koa would chase Haroldine around-it was love at first sight. Their bond grew stronger over the years, culminating in their marriage on October 4, 2019. Together, they built a life full of cherished memories, surrounded by their loving family.
Koa was a proud father to Barrett Allan Matthew Kawika Fevella, Kila Kupono James Borge, Kilo Jacob Konapiliahi Fevella-Borge and Kieven Ayala-Borge. His love extended to his grandchildren, Tori Kai-Mahina Fevella, Thea-Lei Napuawehilani Fevella, Tara Kealuanahea Fevella, Taze Koa Kamakahiki Fevella, Mila Grace Pualei Borge, Elia Jane Pomaika’i Borge, and Rush Kolomona Borge, who were the light of his life.
He was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and friend who lived a life full of love, strength, and humility. He was an expert fisherman and loved being by the ocean. He was strong, smart, loving, and caring, always striving to preserve the peace around him. He wasn’t one to engage in conflict.
In September 2018, Koa was diagnosed with squamous cell carcinoma, a battle that doctors initially predicted would end within six months. However, true to his character, Koa fought valiantly for six years, displaying remarkable resilience and courage.
He passed away peacefully in his sleep on Sunday, August 18, 2024, at the age of 53.
Even on his last day, Koa remained the steadfast provider for his family, cooking dinner and exchanging I love you’s. Koa’s memory will live on with his legacy of love, strength, and humility in the hearts of his loved ones.
During this most difficult time, Koa’s family humbly requests for any financial assistance that can be spared to give him the memorial he deserves. To anyone taking the time to read this, share this and donate, mahalo piha.
