Kiyoki-D’Andre Marcel Toliver, lovingly known as “Kiyo” chose to end the pain he endured throughout life on June 11th, 2024. Kiyo was a Black, queer, autistic man who was an avid gamer and self-identified anime nerd. Kiyo loved Funko Pops, anything involving superheroes, and the love he shared for his community. Kiyo loved Black people and the African American experience and lived his life advocating for the rights of his people. Despite enduring many hardships in his life, Kiyo maintained the ability to find the light in everyone he encountered.
Kiyo showcased daily his love for his partner, Henry Philyaw, often encouraging him to see the brighter side of life and believe in himself. He was a practical joker and prankster and found joy in the family he built over the years. In spites of calamity that he experienced in life, Kiyo prioritized bringing joy to others.
Kiyo was tech savy, enjoyed gaming, and established a loving community of gamer friends who loved him deeply. Kiyo was an avid animal lover who believed wholeheartedly in protecting the underdog—a direct reflection of being the underdog throughout so many experiences in his lifetime.
We—his dad and chosen family—want Kiyo to have the support he needed throughout his life now as we celebrate his passing and home going. Kiyo was patient, loving to others, and always tried to see the brighter side of things. For that we ask that you help us with the remaining balance of $5,000 to cover expenses for the celebration of life that we have planned.
We thank you in advance for the outpouring of love and for your support during this difficult time.
