Honoring Kiko's Generous Spirit and Legacy

Hello, my name is Tabatha. I am here to speak on behalf of my family and Uncle Enrique Presentacion Barreto, aka 'Kiko.' My uncle passed on December 17th. A very hard day for my family to learn about the passing of my uncle Kiko, but we know he is at peace now. He had put up a long and hard fight with his illness of diabetes, health complications and having to deal with the fact that just 4 years ago, my uncle and my aunt had to face what no parent should ever have to deal with, the loss of a son, my cousin, at the young age of 34. That really affected my family, and my uncle was changed forever from that.

He was a hardworking man. His mother and father raised him to be that way, and he worked from a very young age. He had his own family business, from selling T-shirts to owning his own Crab Stand in Fisherman’s Wharf. He dealt with a lot growing up, but he never strayed. A true die-hard sports fan as well. If you had ever gotten the chance to meet him, especially at a sports game, he was always the man with the plan. In reality though, if you ever met Kiko, you would know what kind of man he was—always so giving and generous, always helping in whatever he could, from donating to toy drives to taking soups to the homeless and partaking in funerals or helping families during hard times as well. He always wanted to make people feel like they were family. He had a big heart, and even when he himself needed help, he would always help others first. He would always make you feel comfortable with the stories he would tell and the way he would just make you laugh. Niners, Giants, Warriors—a true San Francisco native, Kiko was a local celebrity in his city, but born in Callao, Peru. He grew up in the Mission and lived a wonderful life. He married my aunt and had two beautiful children, one who is waiting for him in heaven.

My aunt and cousin, his wife and son, are grieving the loss of my uncle, and this reopens the wound of having to deal with my cousin passing not too long ago. My aunt has already buried a son and now having to bury her husband on top of dealing with her own personal health issues. She is just trying to make everything happen all at once while still trying to maintain a sense of reality. I want to help make that burden easier for them so that they don’t have to face this challenging time with the weight of so much pain and stress on top of grief alone. Even if a donation isn’t possible at this time, please just listen to this story and share it with others, and if you have ever gotten the chance to meet my uncle, please share a story with his family as well to make this time easier for them. Thank you.
