It is with unimaginable sorrow that we share the story of Shakira and her beloved daughter, Keyira, affectionately known as “Key.”
On January 16, 2026, at just 24 years old, Key’s life was tragically taken by senseless gun violence. She was a victim of domestic violence, leaving her family devastated and heartbroken. Key was extremely close to her grandmother, LaVerne, whom Shakira buried just two months prior. As neighbors desperately tried to save Key’s life, her final words were, “I’m going to be with my Grandmother.”
Shakira is self-employed and, due to the overwhelming grief and trauma from these losses, is currently unable to work. Key’s 21-year-old brother was forced to relocate to Atlanta from Ohio the very next day to be with his mother and is currently without employment. Shakira also supports her 11-year-old daughter Karis, who was Key’s best friend and Key was her favorite babysitter; now she’s grieving the loss of her sister.
In the midst of this tragedy, Shakira was already in the process of moving into a new place. Now, she faces the overwhelming burden of covering the costs for multiple moves: her own, her late mother’s, and Key’s belongings from her apartment to Shakira’s home.
Shakira is seeking assistance to help cover funeral and burial expenses for Key, as well as the costs of moving Key’s belongings, Shakira’s belongings, and her late mother LaVerne’s belongings. These funds will help ease the financial strain on a family already navigating unimaginable grief, while allowing Shakira to focus on caring for her children and honoring Key’s memory.
Any donation, no matter the amount, will make a meaningful difference. If you are unable to give, please consider sharing this fundraiser and keeping Shakira and her family in your thoughts and prayers.
Key was deeply loved, and her life mattered. Your generosity will help ensure she is laid to rest with dignity and remind Shakira and her family that they are not alone.
Thank you for your compassion, support, and prayers.
