On April 8, 2026, our community suffered an unimaginable loss.

Keny Martinez - Rodriguez, a 17-year-old boy and a student at Deep Creek High School, with his whole life ahead of him, was tragically and senselessly taken during a spring break gathering among peers.

Keny was a light to those around him. He had a warm and playful sense of humor that came out most when he was with the people he loved. His kindness and gentle spirit made him someone others felt comfortable around, and his presence will be deeply missed by family, friends, classmates, and everyone who knew him.

Keny and his family came to the United States as refugees from Guatemala after the heartbreaking loss of his sister to violence in Guatemala. Keny and his family were granted asylum and hoped to build a safer, brighter future together in America. Losing Keny in such a tragic way is a devastating and unimaginable blow to a family that has already endured so much.

Keny deserved a long, beautiful life. While we cannot change what happened, we can come together as a community to honor him and help his family through this unimaginable loss. Keny Martinez Rodriguez, un joven de 17 años y estudiante de Deep Creek High School, con toda una vida por delante, fue trágica y violentamente asesinado durante una reunión de spring break entre compañeros.

Keny era una luz para quienes lo rodeaban. Tenía un sentido del humor cálido y juguetón que mostraba especialmente cuando estaba con las personas que amaba.
