Honoring Kenneth P. Jack: l Dedication to the Printed Word
Kenneth P. Jack (1935-2025), 90, of Ellenton, FL, was a proud U.S. Navy Veteran (Yeoman 2nd Class, USS DuPont DD-941) and a dedicated lifelong newspaperman. On November 23, 2025, Ken passed away peacefully, leaving behind a legacy defined by integrity and the power of the written word. His final wish was to have his obituary published in the five regional newspapers where he spent his career, including the Boston Globe and the San Diego Tribune.
Ken deeply respected the press, raising his three sons—including my twin, retired Fire Captain Curt Jack (Camp Pendleton), and my late brother, Carlsbad Motorcycle Officer Billy Jack (EOW 1990)—as newspaper carriers. For Ken, the job was a hands-on lesson: Your Word Was Your Worth. The newspapers he loved required painstaking work—from the journalist's pen to the printing press, delivered while the ink was still wet. It is the time and dedication required to create that precious, printed word that drives the unexpected cost of his final tribute.
The cost to run the obituary just once in all five papers is significant, especially when including a photograph as he wished. My family, having dedicated our lives to service, is unable to cover this expense alone. We come from a family of first responders and military veterans, and we know that this community gets results. Today, I turn to all first responders, military veterans, and anyone who values the power of the printed word. Please help me honor Kenneth Jack’s life, his legacy, and his dedication to the printed word by helping me meet this goal. Your support will ensure this final, important message is delivered just as he delivered the news throughout his life.
Thank you for helping me honor my father, the newspaperman and Navy Veteran.
