On August 15, my sweet friend and mother-in-law, Kathy, passed away unexpectedly in her sleep. It doesn't feel real.

Kathy was one of the most generous women I've ever known. If she had it to give (and even if she didn't), she would give it. No judgment, no expectation, just freely and with a happy heart. She loved her family with her whole heart - especially her 3 grandkids who truly lit up her life.

The suddenness of her passing has left a hole that words can't really capture. Kathy and James have been living with Olivia and Eric, and sweet Freya, the past few years. Kathy was a daily source of love and support for all of them. Her absence will be keenly felt in their home. Thomas and I live in New Mexico, but even with the distance she made great effort to be involved in our lives. She always offered so much love and support to her grandsons. Her grandkids were so lucky to have her.

On top of the grief, the costs associated with death were something unanticipated at this stage of her life. We've started this fund to help ease that weight so the family can focus on grieving and honoring Kathy's life.
