Honoring Karl Owens’ Life and Legacy

On December 29th, Kiana Owens lost her beloved father, Karl Owens, from a protracted illness. Kiana had been her father's primary caregiver for years while simultaneously working and attending the University of Florida for Applied Physiology and Kinesiology, and remaining engaged in her beloved local community. Anyone who knows Kiana can attest to her kindness, humor, and selflessness — all traits that she shared with her father, who is now missed beyond measure.

Over the course of his life filled with love and connection, Karl made countless friends and never met a stranger. He was always eager to strike up a conversation, tell jokes, and share stories with those who needed a smile. He showed others the best parts of humanity, connecting with humor and warmth, and sharing his vibrant personality with the world. He brought joy and laughter to anyone who had the great fortune to meet him.

He will be remembered for all of this and so much more — and now Kiana needs our support to help maneuver through this sudden loss.

As anyone who has dealt with the healthcare system is aware, illness and losing a loved one are not just emotionally devastating but financially overwhelming too. Though she works as much as she can while being a full time student, there are significant expenses that are impacting her ability to support herself while maintaining good academic standing. Kiana lived with her father, which means that she now must grapple with the financial logistics of maintaining her residence as well — all while just beginning to navigate this shock, loss, and grief.

All donations to this GoFundMe will be deeply appreciated and go exclusively towards Karl’s celebration of life arrangements, remaining medical bills, and Kiana's monthly rent and other necessary living expenses.

Kiana did absolutely everything she could to help her father when he needed it most, and it made all the difference in the world to him. She is a remarkable person and will carry on all the love and care that Karl gave her and the world. It is now up to the community that Kiana dearly loves to support her in her time of need.

Anything you can contribute will help get her closer to graduating, fulfilling her dreams, and caring for herself during this time would mean the world to her, and to Karl. Please consider being her light in the same way that Karl was for so many people through his life.

Celebration of Life will be held on Friday, January 9th, 2026, from 4:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. at The Place on Beal, 100 Beal Street Fort Walton Beach, FL 32548.
