My name is Burke Plyer, and I’m writing as a lifelong best friend of Matt Gilbert and on behalf of his family.

This past Saturday, January 17th, 2026, their family experienced an unimaginable loss. Matt’s son, Kaden Gilbert, passed away unexpectedly at just 26 years old. Kaden was deeply loved, a son, a brother, a bonus brother to many, a friend, and someone whose presence meant more than he probably ever realized.

Kaden’s celebration of life/memorial services will be held Tuesday, January 27th, 2026.

As many know, the emotional weight of a loss like this is heavy enough on its own, and the expenses that come with honoring a loved one can quickly add up.

This GoFundMe has been created to help support Matt, Kaden’s mom Josiane, and their family with funeral and memorial expenses, including the service, memorials, and meaningful ways to honor Kaden’s life across the many people who loved him.

This loss is especially profound for their family; it is the first passing of this kind in three generations, and the love and support already shown has meant more than words can express.
