At our anatomy scan (18 weeks) they saw on ultrasound our son had cystic and enlarged kidneys with low amniotic fluid and then we were sent to a MFM specialist the same week where we found out our son has Bilateral Multicystic Dyplastic Kidneys, a fatal diagnosis, as well as low amniotic fluid which 2 weeks later went to no amniotic fluid at 20 weeks. Without kidneys Josiah cannot produce urine which is what amniotic fluid is made of and without amniotic fluid lungs cannot form properly. Josiah’s kidneys never formed and instead of kidneys cysts formed. We were told he could pass during labor, birth, or a few minutes to hours after birth. Even though this journey is hard I will never regret carrying him to full term, I have 2 other babies I’ve never met and I’d do anything to meet them so I knew I would do anything to meet Josiah as well even if it’s not for a long time it’s worth it.
