Honoring John’s Legacy: Help Cheryl with Funeral Expenses

Donation protected
My name is Cheryl & I am raising funds for my husband John's funeral & memorial service. In December of 2024, John suffered an accident resulting in a traumatic brain injury (TBI), which led to an extended hospital stay followed by residence at a nursing home in Carthage, MO. John passed away suddenly on November 27, 2025, in Carthage, Missouri. Born on July 17, 1969, in Mason City, Iowa, John lived a life marked by generosity, humor, and deep devotion to those he loved. He met his wife Cheryl while they were both working at Travel Centers of America in Concordia, Missouri. Their connection blossomed into a lasting partnership, and they were married in November of 2000. John embraced family wholeheartedly. When he married Cheryl, he also welcomed her daughter Alvina into his heart and quickly became a cherished grandfather to Lexi, Nathan, Leeland, and Madyson. Though he often joked that he wasn’t old enough to be called “Grandpa,” his playful spirit earned him the affectionate nickname “Grandpa Turkey Toes” from his oldest granddaughter—a title that stuck and brought smiles to many.

John was known for his big heart and even bigger sense of humor. He was the kind of man who would give you the shirt off his back without hesitation. His generosity was matched only by his ability to bring joy through laughter—always ready with a joke or a teasing remark that left others grinning.

A passionate Kansas City Chiefs fan, John found joy in cheering on his team. His wife, however, was a Broncos fan, so that made for some interesting moments while watching the two teams play each other. John lost several bets to his wife on the outcomes of the games, which resulted in him having to wear a Broncos jersey a time or two. He enjoyed spending time with family and friends and had a fondness for watching shows like M*A*S*H, cooking programs, American Pickers, and listening to country music. He also had a special interest in collecting eagles—a symbol perhaps reflective of his own resilient spirit.

I am trying to raise funds to help pay for the funeral, memorial service & to help out-of-town relatives with lodging expenses if needed, as most of his side of the family lives in northern Iowa. The memorial will be at my place of employment, the Hiltons of Branson in Missouri. Any help would be greatly appreciated & my budget is already stretched thin with having to cover all our monthly bills since his accident. He was receiving Social Security Disability, but the nursing home took all but $50 of that. Donations can also be made through my daughter's cash app, the cash tag is $AlvinaRosales.
