Dear friends, family and good samaritans, My name is Diana (Didi) Matthews, and with a heavy heart, I cannot believe I am writing this. My little brother, Johan Martinez, has gone to be with the Lord and the one thing that gives my heart peace is that I know wholeheartedly, that he is resting in the presence of Jesus, where there is no more suffering and no more pain.
I was an only child for 10 years, when he was born. He was the light of my world as a child. I treated him like a doll. I have pictures of him as a baby next to my baby dolls. When my parents worked, I took care of him and in my teen years, I used to take him with me everywhere—Midway mall, Castle Park, parties—haha I think people thought he was my son. My brother had many hardships in life, but he had a heart for God and reverenced him. He had been working on himself, trying to make a better life. We would often talk and he would express his desire to have a family and settle down. Unfortunately, that will now be a dream I will think of often. We had 40 years of laughs, tears and memories with Johan and for that am grateful.
In the last few hours I’ve received messages from his boys and other people who knew him since they were kids. Those messages and words spoken about my brother have given me much comfort. My brother was kind—wild hearted, yes—we get it from our dad; but nonetheless, a loving son, beloved brother, uncle and friend. And he will be dearly missed. If you knew my brother, you know he was good people and I’d love for you to remember him with a smile. His passing was sudden and unexpected, so on behalf of my family, we are asking for help to be able to give my brother, the dignity of a proper burial and homecoming. I am asking family, friends and good samaritans to help us during this difficult time—it would mean a lot to us. No contribution is too small and it will be appreciated. If you can share this as well, it will also help. God bless you in advance and we pray for multiplication upon your loving seed. Rest in heavenly peace, twin. I’ll see you again lil bro.
