Dear Beautiful Souls and Community,

My niece, Jessica Carpenter, and her partner, Dave Singley, lost their daughter, my great niece Joey, in a tragic accident on April 27, 2026, in Smyrna, Delaware.

Joey was only 8 years old.

There are no words that make this make sense. Our whole family is heartbroken, trying to hold something that feels impossible to hold.

Joey was the essence of life itself. She loved laughing, joking, being outside, riding her scooter, playing basketball, and just being a kid with her friends, cousins, and siblings (5, 9, and 16). She loved Sonic and Mario, video games, the beach, the color blue, and being surrounded by the people she loved most.

She adored her dog Tootsie, and her family was her whole world.

Joey was sweet, sassy, and a force to be reckoned with. Her smile lit up a room. She was shy at first, but once she warmed up to you, she was bright, funny, and beautifully delightful. She had a gentle way of helping people feel better when they were upset. She showed up for others in a way that made them feel safe and cared for, especially for someone so young.

We know her spirit lives on. We can feel that. But it will take time for our hearts to even begin to wrap around a loss like this.

Jessica and Dave now have to face something no parent ever should, while also being there for their three other children who just lost their sister.

This fundraiser is here to support them through this unimaginable time. To help cover funeral expenses and to give them some breathing room as they begin to navigate life through grief.

Joey will be missed in a way that words will never fully touch. She was deeply loved, and she always will be.
