With heavy hearts, we share the heartbreaking loss of our beloved Jessica Herrera, who gained her wings on March 8, 2026, and went to be with the Lord after a long and courageous battle with cancer.
Jessica was first diagnosed with gastric cancer in October of 2021. After months of fighting with incredible strength, she received the beautiful news in May of 2022 that she was cancer free. Sadly, that joy was short-lived. In December of 2022, Jessica and her family received devastating news — the cancer had returned and had spread beyond her stomach to her colon. Because of the spread, surgery was no longer an option, and the cancer continued to affect other organs.
Even through this unimaginable hardship, Jessica chose to fight quietly and with incredible grace. She made the selfless decision not to share the severity of her illness with people outside of her immediate family. Jessica did not want sympathy — she wanted to live, love, and continue being the strong woman everyone knew her to be.
Jessica fought her battle for over four years with strength, courage, and determination. She continued working, continued smiling, and continued showing the world her strength. She always put her children first, doing everything she could to ensure they never saw her suffering. She was the type of mother who gave her absolute best every single day, even when she herself was hurting.
Anyone who knew Jessica knew her heart. She was a caring, loving, and selfless woman who always took care of everyone around her. Jessica was also incredibly hardworking and determined. Throughout her life she wore many hats — working as a dental assistant, earning her CDL to become a truck driver, and later working as a nurse aide at Monaco Elementary School. No matter what she set her mind to, she accomplished it with pride and determination.
Jessica leaves behind the love of her life, her partner Jose “Sito” Acevedo, her devoted mother Maria Argumedo, her siblings, and most importantly her three beautiful children who were the center of her world. Everything Jessica did in life was for her kids.
During Jessica’s illness, part of the household income was lost as Jose and Maria dedicated their time to caring for her. Now, as the family navigates the immense pain of losing Jessica, they are also facing financial hardship.
This GoFundMe was created at the request of many friends, family members, and community members who reached out asking for a way to financially support Jessica’s family during this incredibly difficult time. Their love and concern for the family is what made this fundraiser possible.
Any contribution, big or small, will help ease the financial burden and allow Jessica’s family to focus on healing and supporting her children as they move forward without the incredible woman who meant everything to them.
If you are unable to donate, please consider sharing this fundraiser and keeping Jessica’s family in your prayers.
Jessica’s love, strength, and beautiful spirit will live on through her children and through everyone whose life she touched.
Thank you for helping us honor Jessica’s memory and support the family she loved so deeply
