Janice’s ALS Journey - Help Us Honor Her Life

I write this message from the heart, on behalf of my husband, Luis, and his brother Pedro, who are accompanying their mother in the final days of her life.

Seventeen years ago, our mom was diagnosed with ALS, a progressive and incurable disease that gradually took away her ability to walk, move, speak, and even breathe. Watching this unfold was heartbreaking, yet through every loss, she remained anchored in her deep faith and unshakable love for God.

As her sons—only 17 and 20 when this began—we stood by her side through sleepless nights, countless hospital stays, and endless prayers. We did our best to comfort her, but the truth is, she was the one who gave us strength. Her courage, grace, and unwavering faith turned even the darkest moments into lessons of love and hope.

Now, after 17 years of resilience and devotion, her body can no longer keep up with her spirit. She has been placed on comfort care, and while her faith remains strong, we know she is nearing the end of her journey.

As we prepare to say goodbye, we humbly ask for your support in helping us cover the costs of her funeral and memorial services. Any contribution, no matter the amount, will allow us to give her the peaceful and dignified farewell she deserves.

Este mensaje lo escribo con el corazón, en nombre de mi esposo, Luis, y su hermano Pedro, quienes están acompañando a su madre en los últimos días de su vida.

Hace diecisiete años, a nuestra madre le diagnosticaron ELA, una enfermedad progresiva e incurable que, con el tiempo, le fue quitando la capacidad de caminar, moverse, hablar e incluso respirar. Ver cómo esto avanzaba fue desgarrador, y sin embargo, a pesar de cada pérdida, ella permaneció firme en su profunda fe y en su inquebrantable amor por Dios.

Como sus hijos—con tan solo 17 y 20 años cuando esto comenzó—estuvimos a su lado durante noches sin dormir, incontables hospitalizaciones y oraciones interminables. Hicimos todo lo posible por consolarla, pero la verdad es que fue ella quien nos dio fuerza. Su valentía, su gracia y su fe inquebrantable convirtieron incluso los momentos más oscuros en lecciones de amor y esperanza.

Ahora, después de 17 años de resiliencia y entrega, su cuerpo ya no puede seguir el ritmo de su espíritu. Ha sido puesta bajo cuidados paliativos, y aunque su fe sigue siendo fuerte, sabemos que se acerca el final de su camino.

Mientras nos preparamos para despedirnos, humildemente les pedimos su apoyo para ayudarnos a cubrir los gastos de su funeral y servicios conmemorativos. Cualquier contribución, sin importar la cantidad, nos permitirá darle la despedida pacífica y digna que se merece.
