As a father, your instinct is to protect, provide for, and guide your child through life. Nothing prepares you for the day that is taken away from you. This Father's Day was unlike any other. Instead of celebrating the bond between a father and his children, I faced a grief so profound that it will remain with me for the rest of my life.
In May 2026, my son, Jamal Rashad Parker, was taken from us through a senseless act of violence committed by people he knew and trusted. Jamal was much more than the tragic circumstances surrounding his death. He was a gifted and creative soul with an entrepreneurial spirit. He had talents in fashion, music, and art, and he approached life with imagination and determination. He was clever, funny, and full of personality. His sense of humor could brighten a room, and his creativity allowed him to see possibilities where others saw obstacles. Like many young men with dreams, Jamal was still writing his story. He deserved the opportunity to continue building his future, sharing his talents, and allowing his light to shine. That opportunity was taken from him far too soon.
Our family is heartbroken. We are now faced with the emotional and financial burden of honoring Jamal's life and providing him with the dignified farewell he deserves. Any contribution, no matter the amount, will help ease these expenses and allow us to focus on remembering, celebrating, and grieving our son. If you are unable to donate, we ask that you please share Jamal's story and keep our family in your thoughts and prayers during this difficult time. Thank you for helping us honor Jamal's memory.
