Honoring the Life and Legacy of Ileana Zamora-Gerena
My sister, Ileana, was an amazing human—sharp, brilliant, and possessed of a wit that could keep up with anyone. She was my first childhood hero. I often say that if my mother is the material from which I am made, my sister was the blacksmith who forged the mold. She shaped my intellect, my charm, and the man I am today. To many, she was known for her 'no fucks given' attitude and her brash exterior, but to me, she was always 'Fluffy'—the soft-hearted soul she only revealed to those she loved most.
Life has come full circle in a way that is both beautiful and heartbreaking. The sister who once watched over me is now the sister I am honoring and remembering. As many of you know, this has been an incredibly difficult journey. Ileana did not leave much behind to cover expenses, so we are trying to bridge the gap with the following: final arrangements to honor her legacy, and help with outstanding bills from her long-term care. We are doing everything we can to honor her memory and ensure she is remembered with love.
Any contribution, no matter the size, is a gift of peace for our family. If you are unable to donate, please consider sharing this link with your network or leaving a favorite memory of Ileana in the comments. Reading your stories about her is a form of therapy for our souls. Thank you for loving her, for reaching out, and for helping me watch over the woman who has always watched over me. With gratitude, Orlando Zamora & Family.
