Honoring Haven Grace

Since the moment Tommy and Sarah shared about Haven Grace, we have been overwhelmed by the outpouring of love and support. We have received countless phone calls and messages asking what more can be done to help them during this incredibly difficult time.

If you would like to help, we have created this page for donations to Tommy and Sarah. The funds will be used to help cover unforeseen medical expenses, memorial costs, and towards their continued journey of expanding their family.

When we asked Sarah and Tommy what else could be done to help them heal, they only asked for the opportunity to share their story of Haven and their journey to becoming parents. They want their friends and family to know what blessing it was for Sarah to become pregnant, carry Haven for 9 months and hold her in their arms—even if for too short of a time. Now that Haven is an angel looking over us all, Sarah and Tommy hope that we can celebrate her life and bring awareness to others’ that may be struggling with infertility and loss. Although their journey to becoming parents has had its obstacles, the journey is far from over. Here is their story.

Our Journey:

For some, becoming a parent is so easy that it often happens by accident, and sometimes more than once. But for many couples, and certainly for Sarah and I, it has been the greatest challenge of our lives. We have invested both time and money; we've seen the best specialists and played a part in cutting edge medicine all with the hopes of maybe someday becoming a mom and dad. Through the process we learned a lot about Infertility and it’s treatments. Trust me when I say this, we tried them all. From hormone therapy, to bloodwork, to new medications, and more hormone therapy.

After years of trying, with no success, we decided to give it a break for a while; we were just so exhausted. Then, in January of 2019, Sarah came out of the bathroom at 5 am and said "Babe... we're pregnant!" We were beyond confused! It was so simple this time, no needles, no doctor visits, just a couple glasses of wine and a hotel room in Frankenmuth. We were so happy. But just as we had come to expect, the happiness didn’t last and our hope soon faded as we experienced our first miscarriage. Months went by and we healed, we laughed and loved with friends and family, but we still knew something was missing.

It wasn’t long before we started talking again about our next steps. We agreed that we would give the doctors one more shot. Back again was the bloodwork, the needles, the hormones. But after countless doctor visits and a lot of prayers, our baby’s heartbeat filled that little screen! We had a good feeling this time around.

As the months went by we began preparations for our little life changer. We got a crib, new carpet, and all manner of toys and clothing. We started warning our animals that a change was coming. We were moving so fast that it almost didnt seem real. However, as the date approached, we started to feel it, we were going to be parents.

At 38 weeks, just 1 week before we expected to meet our little bundle for the first time, that little heartbeat that had been so strong for months could no longer be found. The doctors had to induce labor after our angel had been called home to heaven. On July 30th, at 11:52 pm we delivered our beautiful baby girl Haven Grace. She weighed in at 6 lbs 1 ounce, was 20 inches long, with tons of blonde curly hair (a spitting image of her daddy). Our hearts shattered and we spent all the time we could holding, kissing and loving our sweet baby girl. Though our time with Haven was cut way to short we are so very thankful that god gave us nearly 9 months with her and that we get to be her mommy and daddy. Haven was just too beautiful and perfect for this world and we know she will be waiting with open arms for us when we are called home to heaven.

Sarah & Tommy’s Message to Haven:

"Haven our beautiful sweet angel, mommy and daddy love you so very much and we can’t wait to see and hold you again one day. Though we can’t hold you in our arms we will hold you in our hearts forever and ever! We prayed for you for 4.5 years and though our time with you was way too short we are so very thankful that god gave us you!"
