Evelyn “Shorty” Aponte was more than a colleague—she was family to so many of us. A devoted mother and grandmother, she carried herself with a quiet strength, a warm heart, and a kindness that made people feel instantly at ease. For over 28 years, she showed up not just to work, but for people—always with care, patience, and a genuine smile that could brighten even the hardest days.

On April 25th, while walking home from her shift, Evelyn was tragically struck by a truck as she crossed the street in a marked crosswalk. She fought through extensive injuries but sadly passed away shortly after. This loss is deeply felt. Evelyn wasn’t just part of our daily lives—she was someone we leaned on, laughed with, and cared about. Her absence leaves a space that can’t be filled, but her spirit, her love, and the way she showed up for others will stay with us always. She will never be forgotten.
