A couple of weeks ago we said 'see you over the rainbow' to the queen of my heart. In June of 2011, I adopted E in Michigan. I was 29 and she was under a year old. She became my ride-or-die for the next 14 years, gracing three separate decades of my life as we moved from Ann Arbor, MI to Stillwater, then OKC, OK, then out to Moscow, ID, and finally McCall. Like her mom, she was both a city mouse and a country mouse. E hit over 30 states, including a week in Nevada just this month where she enjoyed cavorting around in the foothills of the Ruby Mountains with her dogfather, Ben and I. Watching E age was a joy. While there were challenges, she rose to the occasion, skiing the most she ever had in her last few months, embracing her mountain life here in McCall. It was the privilege of my life to be her companion. As I said to her as many times a day as I could and many, many times on her final day, in the spring sunshine on our back deck, I love you the most, and this time, I'll miss you forever. The house is eerily quiet after going from a two-dog to no-dog household in just eight months; we find solace in feeling both girls around us in the sunshine, wading into spring water at Ponderosa's beaches, and since only dogs go to heaven, imagining Tizzy welcoming E into days of endless sunning and peanut butter.

Thinking of all the friends, human, canine, and feline, that she connected me to and sending out lots of love in her memory. I have created a fundraiser for the @busterfoundationrescue, that rescued E and chose me to be her forever mom. They do work in one of the most difficult areas in the country for pit bull-type dogs, and the best way I can think to honor E is to help them continue the work that brought me 14 years of joy. If you are so moved, they are grateful for all support. The fundraiser will go through E's gotcha day on June 16th.
