Ayúdame a hacer realidad el sueño de #CasaEliza

Hola, soy Melissa, y hoy quiero compartir contigo un sueño que ha vivido en mi corazón por muchos años.

Mi abuelita Eliza fue una mujer valiente y trabajadora. Con sus propias manos, construyó una pequeña casita en Luquillo, Puerto Rico, un hogar lleno de amor y memorias. Allí aprendí a darle de comer a las gallinas, a recoger limones del patio para una refrescante limonada y, lo más importante, a valorar el sacrificio y la dedicación de mi familia.

Mi abuelita dejó la isla a los 16 años con la esperanza de regresar algún día. Ese sueño nunca lo logró.

Yo también tuve que partir en el 2000, pero siempre supe que un día volvería para honrar su legado.

En los últimos años, la vida me ha puesto pruebas difíciles. Mi abuelita falleció hace casi 12 años, mi mamá en 2021 a los 69 años y, recientemente, mi tío también partió a la misma edad. Como hija única y nieta única de mi abuelita, este sueño se ha convertido en mi misión.

Con la ayuda de Dios, de mi esposo y de mis primos Benggie, Rio y Monica, he dado pasos para restaurar Casa Eliza. Después de más de 25 años sin electricidad ni agua, finalmente he logrado conectar los servicios básicos, algo que para muchos es cotidiano, pero para mí es un gran milagro.

Pero el camino aún es largo…

Restaurar y mantener esta casa requiere recursos que, honestamente, no puedo cubrir sola. Es por eso que hoy, con humildad y esperanza, pido tu ayuda.

Hi, I’m Melissa, and today I want to share with you a dream that has lived in my heart for many years.

My grandmother, Eliza, was a brave and hardworking woman. With her own hands, she built a small house in Luquillo, Puerto Rico—a home filled with love and memories. It’s where I learned to feed the chickens, pick fresh lemons from the yard for lemonade, and, most importantly, appreciate my family’s sacrifice and dedication.

At just 16 years old, my grandmother left the island, hoping to return one day. But that dream never came true.

I also had to leave in 2000, but I always knew that one day, I would come back to honor her legacy.

These past few years have been incredibly difficult. My grandmother passed away nearly 12 years ago, my mother in 2021 at the age of 69, and recently, my uncle also passed away at the same age. As an only daughter and my grandmother’s only granddaughter, this dream has become my mission.

With the help of God, my husband, and my cousins Benggie, Rio, and Monica, I have taken the first steps toward restoring Casa Eliza. After more than 25 years without electricity or running water, I was finally able to reconnect basic services—something many take for granted, but for me, it’s a true miracle.

But the journey is far from over…

Restoring and maintaining this home requires resources that, honestly, I can’t cover on my own. That’s why today, with humility and hope, I’m asking for your help.
