Our hearts are broken as we share the story of our beautiful daughter, Elena. Elena was only five months old, but in that short time she filled our lives with more love, joy, and light. She passed away on Wednesday, February 4, after spending eight days in the hospital, surrounded by her mom, dad, sister, brother, and family who never left her side. She was always smiling, always happy, and always full of life. Her face would light up with excitement when she saw her dad come home from work, as if she had been waiting all day just for that moment. She adored her morning snuggles with her mommy and the little one on one moments they shared. She was surrounded by love from her aunts and uncles, who cherished every movement, every smile, every tiny milestone.

Elena was first admitted to the hospital with what appeared to be a simple cold. What followed was an unexpected turn. Doctors discovered underlying medical conditions she had been bravely struggling with since birth—a condition that had never shown themselves until now. During her first night in the hospital, Elena suffered a cardiac arrest, which caused significant injury to her brain. Despite every effort and every prayer, our sweet girl gained her wings far too soon.
