For my Eagle Project, I am designing and leading the construction of two memorial benches around the athletic field at Hillview Middle School. In addition, I am creating a learning enrichment grant to benefit students with learning differences such as ADHD, dyslexia, and dysgraphia. Both the benches and the grant will honor Dylan Taylor, an alumni, paraeducator, and coach at Hillview, who was a beloved member of our community.
Dylan Taylor was a local athletics coach who supported youth sports, including flag football and basketball at the middle school level and contact football at the high school level. Dylan was always happy, kind, selfless, and humble. He was truly one of the greatest human beings you could ever meet. Tragically, while biking to work on the morning of May 7th, 2025, Dylan was hit by a garbage truck near the Menlo Park School District Office and Encinal Elementary School. Although paramedics arrived quickly and he was initially responsive, Dylan later passed away at Stanford Hospital. He was only 30 years old.
To honor Dylan’s legacy, I will lead a team of scouts and volunteers to build and install the benches and work with school administrators to launch the grant. The funds raised will go toward purchasing materials for the benches and establishing the initial grant. Any additional money raised over my goal will go to the learning enrichment grant. My leadership will include organizing fundraising, drafting the grant description and criteria, recruiting and supervising volunteers, and coordinating with the school, PTO, and the Taylor family. This project is not only an opportunity for me to demonstrate organization, teamwork, and communication skills, but also a way to give back to my community in a way that is deeply meaningful to me. I am truly grateful for your support to make this vision a reality and to honor someone who made a lasting difference in so many lives.
