Honoring Dr. Shiloh Schulte: Supporting His Family & Legacy
Donation protected
It is with profound sadness that we share the heartbreaking news that our beloved brother, husband, father, son, and friend, Dr. Shiloh Schulte, PhD, tragically lost his life on Wednesday while conducting field research in a remote part of Alaska. Shiloh was doing what he loved most—working in nature to protect the birds and wild places he cherished so deeply.
Shiloh was a lifelong birdwatcher, conservationist, and scientist whose passion for the natural world was infectious. From a young age, he could be found exploring forests and wetlands with binoculars in hand, always eager to discover and share the wonders of the avian world. His dedication to protecting shorebirds and their habitats took him to some of the most remote and challenging environments on Earth, where he worked tirelessly to ensure a future for these vulnerable species.
But Shiloh was so much more than a scientist. He was a devoted husband and father, a loving son and brother, a generous neighbor, and a pillar of his community. Whether he was helping a neighbor with yard work, leading the town Select Board, running a marathon or inspiring others through his photography and storytelling, Shiloh gave his all—always with a warm heart and boundless energy.
He leaves behind a loving wife and two daughters, as well as a large extended family and countless friends and colleagues who are grieving this unimaginable loss. While we are heartbroken, we are also committed to honoring Shiloh’s legacy.
This GoFundMe has been created to help support Shiloh’s family during this incredibly difficult time, with a special focus on securing a bright future for his daughters, including assistance with their education. It will also help ensure that the spirit of Shiloh’s life’s work in bird conservation lives on, by supporting efforts that reflect his passion for protecting the natural world.
We are deeply grateful for the outpouring of love and support we’ve received. A celebration of Shiloh’s life will be planned for later this year, and we’ll share more details about the timing and location as they become available.
If you have any photographs or memories of Shiloh that you would like to share, Manomet has set up a page where you can post them.
Thank you for helping us keep Shiloh’s spirit alive. ❤️
With love and gratitude,
The Schulte & Bateman Families

GoFundMe has asked for more specifics regarding the funds, how they will be handled, and who will receive them. So I am including that information below:
This fundraiser was created by me, Jonah Schulte, the brother of Dr. Shiloh Schulte. I am organizing this campaign along with my sister Jill on behalf of Shiloh’s immediate family—his wife, Shevaun Schulte, and their two daughters—who are the intended recipients of all funds raised.
All donations will be transferred directly to Shevaun Schulte, who has been added as the beneficiary of this fundraiser. She will have full access to the funds, which will be used to support their family’s immediate needs and to help secure a stable future for their daughters, including educational expenses.
A portion of the funds may also be used to support conservation efforts that reflect Shiloh’s lifelong dedication to protecting birds and the natural world.
Thank you again for your generosity and support during this difficult time. It means so much to all of us!
