My name is Mary Hendrick, and I have had the privilege of not only being a friend of Dr. Kimberly Ellis for 8 years, but also her boss. She was one of the most generous, caring, and genuine people you could ever meet. Kimberly was an advocate for all, especially for those who were often overlooked. As a lifelong learner, she earned her Doctorate degree while raising her son alone. Her commitment to education inspired her to work in higher education, where she dedicated herself to helping community college students complete their education at every level possible. Kimberly advised, counseled, and encouraged her students, refusing to let them give up on themselves or their dreams. Her sincere and personalized support was the reason many of these individuals were able to graduate.
Sadly, while Kimberly fought tirelessly for others, she faced a battle against cancer that she could not win. In January, Dr. Ellis passed away, leaving behind her 21-year-old son, family, friends, coworkers, and countless students who are heartbroken by this loss.
To honor her selfless dedication to others, I am asking those who had the privilege of knowing Kimberly to join me in supporting her son during this difficult time. Your donation will provide him with the funds needed to navigate the coming months of grief, bills, and expenses as he manages his mother’s estate. If Kimberly had been aware of a situation like this for any of us, she would have been the first to help. I urge everyone who had the honor of knowing her to show the same support for her son.
