Dr. Sambit Kumar Barua was a quiet, humble man who touched countless lives through his work as a doctor and his unwavering generosity. Since coming to Columbus from Bangladesh in 1987, he devoted himself to helping others, often giving everything he had to anyone in need—whether it was medical advice, a listening ear, or even a ride in his prized Right Hand Drive Rolls Royce. He never judged, never expected anything in return, and always greeted everyone with his signature awkward smile and a gentle 'how are you.'

Throughout his life, Dr. Barua regularly donated to many Buddhist temples, always believing in the importance of making life better for others. Of all the temples he supported, there were two—one here in Columbus and another in Detroit—that he frequented most and held especially close to his heart. Even in the face of adversity, he worked tirelessly to ensure that no one else would have to struggle as he once did. His kindness, humor, and selflessness left a lasting impression on everyone who knew him.

In honor of his memory, we are raising funds to donate equally to the two Buddhist temples that meant so much to him. The donations will go directly to the temples' ongoing needs, much like a church donation box, helping them continue their important work in the community. Sambit would be happy in any circumstance, always encouraging giving to anything or anyone meaningful to you. There is absolutely no obligation to give—Sambit would have loved for this to be done in lieu of flowers.
