Happy Sunday to all. I want to thank everyone who contributed to this fundraiser for Deno. His family is super appreciative and overwhelmed by the love we all have for their uncle. We will be planning a service at the Hyde Park Neighborhood Club in early December with the goal of dedicating a bench or something similar near the baseball diamond.
Deno Hicks was the kind of person whose smile could light up any room. He was known for giving the best hugs and being a true friend to so many. Deno’s love for the Chicago Cubs, the Bears, and sports in general brought people together, and his warmth and kindness left a lasting impression on everyone he met.
One of my favorite memories with Deno was sitting under the stars with friends, talking about how dinosaurs once walked where we were sitting. That night, Deno’s philosophical side shone through—he was always ready to share a thoughtful perspective or a kind word. His ability to connect with others and make them feel valued was truly special.
We are raising funds to help cover the costs of Deno’s cremation and a memorial service. The need is urgent, as we hope to arrange the service within the next two weeks, but we do not yet have a clear timeline. I am working closely with Deno’s nephews, brother-in-law, and sister to ensure he is honored in a way that reflects the love and friendship he shared with so many. Any support will help us give Deno the farewell he deserves and ease the burden on his family during this difficult time.
