On April 18, 2026, at 4:32 am, I received a phone call with news more devastating than I can handle. I was told my nephew, who was more like my first son, had been shot and was transported to the hospital. I called multiple hospitals, my mother drove to several, and I drove an hour to one that gave me hope my baby was fitting the description of a gunshot victim. When I reached that hospital, it wasn't him, and my heart dropped and broke even more. I then went to the crime scene to find out where he was. It took the police roughly 15 to 20 minutes to tell me that I had lost a piece of my soul. They gave me the most gut-wrenching news of my life: my baby, my nephew, who was more like my first son, was taken from us. His life was stolen by people who were irresponsible with guns.

Daesean was only 18, about to graduate. He was a respectful young man, loved by so many, with a light about him so bright that when he walked into a room, he made everyone's frown turn around. He knew how to make people laugh and even get me mad on purpose! He was super smart and had a beautiful heart. If you knew him, you had a blessing in your life because he always managed to make someone feel comfortable, loved, welcomed, and cared for. He was a young man who had experienced so much but was still beautiful inside and out.
