Dear friends and family,

Hello, our names are Britney and Latrece, and we are the proud aunties of Cornelius Dewayne Otis Jr., beloved son of Barbara and Cornelius Sr. With heavy hearts, we’re creating this go fund me to help take some of the burden off his parents so therefore we are reaching out to our community after the devastating loss of DJ.

Cornelius was tragically taken from us on a Sunday June 8, 2025, due to senseless gun violence in Memphis, TN that took place on Saturday June 7th. He was just 18 years old.

At just 18 years old, he had so much life ahead of him—full of dreams, aspirations, and love for those around him.

Born on January 2, 2007, Cornelius recently celebrated a major milestone, proudly graduating from Kirby High School, Class of 2025. His future was bright, and he was ready to embrace the world. He was a beacon of light, with a radiant smile and a spirit that could lift anyone's mood. He touched the lives of everyone he encountered and had an incredible bond with his family and friends, who will forever cherish the memories they created together.

As we come together to honor his life and plan a beautiful homegoing celebration, we are reaching out to our community for support during this profoundly difficult time. No family should have to navigate this alone, especially when faced with such a devastating loss.

We would be eternally grateful for any contributions to help cover the funeral and burial expenses and to provide some comfort to Cornelius's family.
