Dear Friends and Community,
For more than 30 years, many in the Lansing area knew Colin Campbell, affectionately known as “the Flag Man.” Often walking with his loyal companion by his side, Colin carried an American flag along Marsh Road, waving to passing motorists—an act of quiet patriotism that became a familiar and comforting sight for thousands.
Colin was a proud United States Marine Corps veteran who served two tours during the Vietnam War. After the Gulf War, he began what would become a decades-long tradition of honoring his country and connecting with his community—one wave at a time.
On January 17, Colin passed away at the age of 78 after leaving the assisted living facility where he resided. His passing was sudden and devastating. He leaves behind his wife, Catherine, now a widow, who is facing profound grief along with the financial challenges that often follow an unexpected loss. His death is currently under investigation, adding further uncertainty during an already overwhelming time.
A GoFundMe has been created by family members to help support Catherine during this difficult transition. The goal of $50,000 is intended to assist with funeral and memorial expenses, outstanding medical bills, and immediate living and care-related costs as her benefits and support systems are reassessed.
If Colin ever waved to you, brought a smile to your day, or reminded you of the power of simple kindness, please consider donating or sharing this fundraiser. Every gesture of support helps ensure Catherine is cared for during this incredibly difficult time.
On behalf of the Campbell family,
Thank you for honoring Colin’s life and legacy.
