Honoring Charlie aka Chuckie da Man
Donation protected
Charlie T. Manuel, aka Chuckie, The Boss, Lolo, Kuya, Manong, Dad/Daddy, born December 4, 1955 was a good man, a family man and a dear friend to so many.

For 8 weeks, he bravely fought setbacks as he recovered from 2 major surgeries at the Cancer Treatment Center of America. Without the support of pain medication (by choice) and with cheers from family and friends encouraging him to Laban Laban aka "fight fight" like Manny Pacquiao, my sweet, soulful dad bravely fought. Yet while his will continued to fight, his body unfortunately felt that it was time to rest.
Surrounded by his family speaking words of love and devotion, and with the sounds of his favorite songs, daddy entered the next realm on November 28 peacefully to join his parents, brothers, friends, and our dog Penny.

Dad's will to fight was only matched by my mom's perseverance. She never left his side making sure he could see her to bring him ease and comfort. When not supporting his care or steadily praying, mom became a fixture with the hospital staff making friends with the nurses, cafeteria staff, security staff, janitorial staff, greeters and many others. In his last few days, the medical staff who provided dedicated care for my dad commented on his goofball antics and the palpable and mesmerizing connection between my parents. They loved hearing about my parent's love story, meeting and secretly eloping within 7 weeks. My mom's 43+ years of love and devotion to my dad was evident to all who met her and she expanded the network of people who kept my dad's well-being in their thoughts and prayers.

My dad was a lively man who lit up the room with his self-taught musical prowess or his smooth dance moves, or who quietly stood in the back closely observing people's personalities and ticks. He instilled his love for music in both of his kids, introducing us to rock and crooning love songs during long family Honda rides to New York. He was the perfect duet partner, adding harmonies to every song. The youngest of 5 boys, he made it through the streets of Cubao and the Army, working as a lab tech, nurse and eventually fulfilling his dream of being his own boss. He loved golf and was amazing at putting, eating all the good steak off the bone, oysters and action movies. He was a goofball and enjoyed making people, and himself, laugh. New Year's Eve was his favorite holiday and he knew how to bring the fireworks. He was smart and sharp as hell and loved a good game of chess. He's a supportive uncle, godfather, brother-in-law and manong to many. He had a gentle kindness but also could fight with the best of them. He knew how to strive and work hard to provide a good life for his family. He loved nothing more than creating small moments of laughter and ease with my mom or doting on his grandson. There are no words in the English language or Tagalog language that can truly encapsulate who he was and what he meant to so many.

Our family is incredibly grateful and humbled by the outpouring of love and support from so many. This site is an option for anyone interested in honoring dad with donations. Funds will be used to support Cancer research organizations focused on esophageal & bile duct cancer, supporting nurses who go above and beyond to help patients & their loved ones through difficult times, and our family.

We're collecting stories and memories of my dad to be shared and treasured by my family. If you'd like to share a memory or story, be it a video message, photo or text please contact me.
All acts of thoughtfulness and generosity are wonderful and touching as we make sense of this next chapter of our lives. And while it's an incredibly numbing type of pain we're experiencing as we move forward, I know my dad didn't give us a life of silliness, love, laughter and music for it to suddenly fade with his passing. His body is at peace and his love and memories will live with us all until we all connect again.
