Remembering Chicken: Help with Vet Expenses

I don't know how to even begin writing this. My sweet and perfect companion, my beloved Sphynx kitten named Chicken, left this world on Sunday morning on March 23, 2025 and it is a much darker place without her light in it. She was a brilliant and lovely little girl with a heart of gold. She was not only loved by me but all who knew her and she will be eternally missed.

Chicken was 16 weeks when she woke up on the morning of March 22nd and began to gobble down her food. She was so voracious that she inhaled some of her food and began to choke. I rushed her to the Emergency vet where they sedated her and got x-rays before moving her to an oxygen box to begin recovering and administering antibiotics. Her x-rays didn't show much but they expected pneumonia.

I was able to spend a little time with her before they sent me home to wait but around mid day I received a call that she was taking a turn for the worse but the facility didn't have the capabilities to help her further. They needed to transfer her to another emergency vet in the area that could perform a CT scan or the procedure to remove the blockage.

Two of the locations could not take her and the last could but there was no way to provide a portable oxygen box to get her to the facility. I had to prepare to hold her in my arms for the full 20 minute drive and hope that she made it.

That did not end up being the case as when we arrived to pick her up they brought her out in an oxygen box they were able to acquire and we were able to get her safely to the specialty emergency vet.

The specialty vet took her and let us know that they had seen worse and to have hope. That they didn't believe she needed a CT but just oxygen, good care, and antibiotics. Once she was settled was able to see her again in a new oxygen tank. I couldn't hold her but I was able to reach my arm in and pet her and love her.

My final moments with her were pressing a kiss to my fingers and placing them on her forehead before telling her I loved her and she was strong.

I left the vet hopeful and begging the universe to help carry her through this. The vet told me they wouldn't call until the morning and that no call was a good thing. I went home and began preparing for her to come home in a few days.

I was finally able to get to sleep but was awoken at 2am when they called to say she had taken another turn for the worse. She was struggling to breath and then she began to lose the fight. A new x-ray showed clear pneumonia in her lung. They wanted to put her into an induced coma and breath for her but she wasn't strong enough and her little heart couldn't take the fight any longer.

I am now in a home without my sweet girl, my best friend, my companion, my Chicken. She was worth ever cent spent trying to keep her with me but I am now $3000 in debt with an an estimated $500 required to bring her remains home. I hate to ask for help but I am lost and hopeless without her. Any help that can be provided would be greatly appreciated even if its just a few kind words or a loving thought for my dear baby Chicken.
