Hi Everyone,

Maria Consuelo Zetter, lovingly known as “Chelo,” was born on February 10, 1951, in Mexico and passed away on June 10, 2026, in Riverside, California, leaving behind a life defined by hard work, devotion, creativity, and an unwavering love for her family.

Chelo grew up in Guadalajara, Mexico, and shortly after her 23rd birthday, she moved to Southern California, where she built her home and spent the rest of her life. She carried with her the values, resilience, and determination that shaped her from an early age. Throughout her life, she remained deeply connected to her roots, her family, and her faith. Those who knew Chelo will remember her as spirited, outspoken, honest, and strong-willed—qualities that reflected both her vibrant personality and her remarkable strength.

For more than 60 years, Chelo dedicated herself to the art of fashion design and dressmaking, a profession she truly loved. She was not only a talented seamstress but also a gifted designer who created her own patterns and brought beautiful ideas to life through her work. As the owner and operator of LaFayette, she designed and crafted wedding gowns, prom dresses, and quinceañera dresses that became treasured memories for countless families. Even after retirement, she continued to find joy in altering and repairing clothing, always taking pride in her craftsmanship and in helping others look and feel their best.

Chelo’s life was centered around her family, and she will be deeply missed by her children, Eva, Luisa, Yousif, Evelyn, and Consuelo. She also leaves behind 14 grandchildren, 4 great-grandchildren, and 7 siblings, all of whom were blessed by her love, strength, wisdom, and presence. Her family was the heart of her life, and she gave them her unwavering support, encouragement, and care throughout the years. More than anything, she loved her family deeply and unconditionally, and there was never any doubt of how much they meant to her.

Although distance often separated her from her siblings, they remained close to her heart, and she cherished each of them throughout her life. She also carried a deep love for her mother and felt the absence of her mother’s presence for many years. Her faith brought her comfort, and she found peace in the belief that one day she would be reunited with her beloved mother and brothers in Heaven.

Outside of work and family, Chelo enjoyed the simple pleasures that brought her happiness. She loved visiting casinos, watching old movies, and spending time with those she loved. She was also a devoted Christian who enjoyed reading her Bible, and her faith remained an important part of her life. Her belief in God gave her strength, guided her steps, and was evident in the way she lived with dignity, conviction, and grace.

Maria Consuelo Zetter will be remembered as a hardworking woman, a devoted mother, grandmother, sister, and friend, and a person whose presence was both memorable and meaningful. To her family, she was a source of strength, guidance, and unconditional love—a woman whose sacrifices, wisdom, and devotion helped shape the lives of those she cherished most. Her legacy lives on in the family she cherished, the lives she touched, and the many beautiful garments she created with her gifted hands. She will be dearly missed and lovingly remembered always.
