Help Bring Charlie Home & Honor His Legacy

On August 22, we lost our beloved Charlie St. Clair following a devastating motorcycle accident in Ohio.

Anyone who knew Charlie knows how difficult it is to put into words what he meant to so many people. Charlie was a lifelong Laconia resident, longtime Executive Director of the Laconia Motorcycle Week Association, public servant, historian, motorcyclist, businessman, and friend. But those titles only begin to describe him.

More than anything, Charlie was about people and connections.

He spent his life bringing people together and introducing them to the things he loved—motorcycles, Laconia, history, trains, antiques, and, of course, the annual ride to Sturgis that he had made every year since 1976. Along the way, Charlie built friendships that lasted a lifetime.

Since Charlie's accident, we have been overwhelmed by the number of people who have reached out asking what they can do to help. That kindness has meant more than I can possibly express.

I am creating this fund to provide a way for those who loved Charlie and would like to help during this incredibly difficult transition.

The immediate priority is raising funds to pay for Charlie's final trip home to Laconia, the community he loved and called home throughout his life. Funds will also help with expenses related to the funeral and burial, as well as the many unexpected costs associated with his passing.

In addition, contributions will help maintain Charlie's ongoing financial obligations over the next several months while I work through the complicated process of determining what comes next and addressing the many responsibilities he has left behind.

All contributions will be placed into a separate account established specifically for this fund.

Charlie spent decades giving his time, energy, knowledge, friendship, and heart to Laconia, to Motorcycle Week, the State of New Hampshire, and the motorcycle community. He was fiercely independent and never someone who would have been particularly comfortable asking others for help.

So I am asking for him.

The outpouring of love for Charlie since his accident has reminded me just how far his circle reached. He spent a lifetime building a village and when he needed it most, his village showed up!
