Honoring Charles Swan — A Life of Service, A Call for Support
We’re reaching out today to share the story of an extraordinary man — a colleague, a friend, and a true servant leader. Charles Swan has dedicated his life, both professionally and personally, to serving others with compassion and unwavering faith.
For over 20 years, Charles has been a valued member of the Mayo Clinic nursing community. His career began in pediatric care, but his calling led him to specialize in Vascular Access, where he has served as a bedside nurse, Infusion Center Coordinator, educator, and infection prevention advocate. Through every role, Charles has touched countless lives — patients, nurses, physicians — elevating care standards and leaving a lasting impact through his passion for education and excellence.
Charles has been courageously battling Stage 4 cancer since his initial diagnosis in January 2023. Over the two years, he has undergone multiple rounds of chemotherapy and radiation, along with three hospitalizations related to complications from treatment. In January 2025, Charles underwent a major esophagectomy in the hope of eradicating the disease and avoiding further treatment. After a prolonged hospital stay and challenging recovery, he made a determined return to work. Sadly, less than a month later, Charles was urgently hospitalized again, this time due to the discovery of metastatic brain lesions. On May 12th, he underwent a craniotomy to remove the 2 golf ball size masses. While the procedure was a necessary step, his ongoing treatment plan remains uncertain.
True to his character, he approaches this challenge with grace, faith, and strength. His love for his family fuels his fight, especially as he prepares to celebrate several milestones: his daughter, Madeline, will graduate high school with honors this May and begin college through the Air Force ROTC program in the fall. This July, Charles and his wife, Amy, will celebrate their 20th wedding anniversary.
Beyond his immediate family, Charles also serves as the primary caregiver for his aging parents. His father lives at a local Veterans Rehab Facility, and his mother is in assisted living without financial assistance — a testament to Charles’ selflessness and deep devotion to those he loves.
We share Charles’ story today to ask for your prayers and support. As the financial burden grows, we hope to ease that weight so Charles can focus on his healing journey and spend meaningful time with his loved ones.
Charles remains steadfast in his belief that God will provide. With your support, we can be part of that provision — walking beside him and his family during this difficult time.
