Dear Friends of Catherine "Captain" Ficcardi and Sarah Hanson,

As many of you know, our brilliant, hilarious, loving, and beloved Catherine passed away on December 22, 2024, about one week after being diagnosed with an aggressive form of Leukemia called B ALL.

It was a great comfort to Sarah, and may be to you, that she had a few days in the hospital where she was her full self – singing and entertaining the doctors and nurses. The blood products and other treatment were improving the fatigue she had been experiencing for some time, and she was looking forward to seeing you all. As one of the nurses (Nav) comforted Sarah after her passing, she told her that Captain's favorite nurse (Ashley) had told Nav that if she is having a bad day, she should just pop into room 1058 and she'll be cracking up. She was a blessing to most everyone she met up until the end.

Funds raised will go towards cremation expenses, a celebration of Catherine's life, and support for Sarah, her partner of 15 years, as she grieves and adjusts to life without Catherine.

Catherine loved her community and was a friend and chosen family for so many. On behalf of Sarah, thank you for the outpouring of love and support.
