Carlos has been fighting since the day he was born. At just 14 ounces, doctors weren’t sure he would survive, but he proved them wrong over and over again. What many people didn’t see was not just his medical strength — but his beautiful spirit. Behind the hospital stays, the surgeries, the feeding tube, and the blindness was a brilliant, determined, tender soul. Most people didn’t know that Carlos read above a college level. Despite being legally blind and completely blind in one eye, his mind was extraordinary. He loved learning. He absorbed knowledge in a way that amazed everyone who truly got to know him. Carlos was quiet but powerful. Gentle but fierce. His smile carried so much light. He endured pain most adults couldn’t imagine, yet he never stopped fighting. Every milestone — learning to eat at four, learning to walk at five — was a victory that felt like a miracle. Carlos is not just my son. He is my hero. He taught me what courage really looks like.
On February 16, Carlos suffered a severe seizure along with pneumonia, which caused his lungs to collapse and led to serious neurological complications. After exhausting all medical options, doctors have placed him on hospice care and have told us his time is very limited. Because Carlos has battled complex medical conditions since birth, our focus has always been on his ongoing care and survival. We did not have life insurance in place, and we are now facing immediate funeral and burial expenses.
We are raising funds to give Carlos a dignified and honorable burial. This need is urgent as we prepare for his final days. Any support during this heartbreaking time is deeply appreciated.
