Honoring Cairn Atkinson (Medical & Funeral Costs)
Donation protected
This fundraiser is to honor the life of Cairn Atkinson and help her family to cover the costs of her long fight against a rare type of cancer.
Cairn has been an inspiration to us in all aspects of life, but especially since overcoming her first bout with cancer during which resulted in the amputation of her leg and half her pelvis. Since that time, Cairn has been a passionate advocate for cancer survivors, amputees and individuals with disabilities. Sadly, her cancer returned last year and persisted despite several surgeries.
Committed to living her life to the fullest, she and her husband Joseph set off on their dream honeymoon that they couldn't have when they got married 7 years ago. On their way back from Hawaii, Cairn collapsed and survived the rest of the trip thanks to the selflessness of the other passengers and crew. At 11:30pm on April 3, the ship’s Captain got on the PA and asked for any and all registered blood donors to report to deck 4. Her family onboard said it was a sight to go to the medical bay at almost midnight and see so many filled seats at that late hour, passengers coming to help someone who they didn't know with the precious gift of lifesaving blood. This sustained Cairn until the paramedics could pick her up and take her to the hospital on April 5th where she remained, surrounded by family and friends, until she passed on the 16th.
One of the incredible things about Cairn is how she loved and cared for everyone in her life. It’s now our time to care for her and to help her family recover from the staggering costs of her last battle. The emergency medical service at sea was over $17,000 alone.
Thank you in advance from Cairn, Joseph, her mother, and their families.
