Honoring Brad: A Survivor's Story

Donation protected
My father, Bradley Dunn, passed peacefully at a nursing center in Jacksonville, FL, on the evening of February 23rd, 2025. Although his passing was peaceful, the majority of Brad's life was anything but.

Brad was a nearly 20-year survivor of domestic abuse, with the most severe incident resulting in a broken orbital bone and nearly ending his life around 3 years ago. Like many male victims of domestic violence, Brad was a silent victim and endured far more than any person should ever experience for far too long. Despite this, Brad was a dedicated and loving father, leaving behind two daughters and one son, as well as 3 grandchildren he would have stopped time for. Brad lacked control over many moments in his life, but every moment he could control, he made a good one. Brad was always looking for the light in every situation and always seeking to brighten the day of those around him.

Two years ago, my siblings and I helped our father to escape his abuse. At the time, both our father and ourselves believed he would get better in health once he was finally free from his abuse. Over the next two years, Brad's health continued to decline. He never recovered. Brad was a fiercely hard worker; he always thought he'd return to work full-time once he put distance between himself and his abuser. Although his body gave up before it should have been time, his hardworking and fierce spirit prevailed until the end.

In the wake of our father's death, my siblings and I humbly seek assistance in giving a modest service to a man who deserved so much more in his life.

We are grateful for anyone who has taken the time to read our father's story. We implore anyone experiencing domestic violence to speak up, get help, and get out while there is still time to live and live a full life. Help is out there. You do matter.
