I’m Lydia Sullivan, and I am passionate about creating opportunities for more people to fall in love with and care about our natural world. Growing up, time outside grounded me, taught me resilience, and connected me to community. I want those same gifts to be available to Black neighbors and future generations so that our relationship to the land reflects our histories, joy, and leadership.
This Black Philanthropy Month, I am raising support for Outdoor Afro to celebrate the long tradition of Black generosity, leadership, land stewardship, and community care. Outdoor Afro brings Black people together in nature through hiking, fishing, biking, kayaking, gardening, skiing, and more. Their programs build confidence, teach conservation skills, and create safe, welcoming spaces where Black outdoor leaders can thrive.
When we support Outdoor Afro, we expand its national impact—reaching more communities, training more leaders, and connecting more people to meaningful outdoor experiences that nurture wellbeing and stewardship. Your contribution will help fund programs, events, and resources that center Black voices in conservation and outdoor recreation.
Please join me in honoring Black philanthropy and strengthening our connection to the natural world. Your gift will directly support Outdoor Afro’s work to expand access, leadership, and care for our lands and waters. Donate today and help grow a future where everyone can belong outdoors.
