Honoring "Big Ed" – Supporting the Derks Family

The Kansas City softball community lost one of its most consistent—and unmistakable—presences with the sudden and unexpected passing of Ed Derks, known to most of us affectionately as, “Big Ed.”

On behalf of the entire KC metro softball family, Top Gun Events has created this fundraiser to support his two children as they navigate life without their dad. While we can’t take away their pain, we can ease some of the burden during this heartbreaking time.

Ed was a familiar face—and a driving force—behind the scenes. At Blue Valley and ballparks across Kansas City, if something was happening on the field, Ed was likely nearby—making sure it was done right. His passion wasn’t always quiet, but it was always real. He cared deeply: about the game, about the players, and about doing things the right way. His impact on this community ran deep—and now, it’s our turn to show up for him and his loved ones, the way he always showed up for us.

We’re asking our softball community to rally around Ed’s family and help support his son and daughter as they deal with this loss. Every donation helps—and every share, every memory, every show of support reminds them that Ed made an impact that won’t be forgotten.

Thank you for giving back to a man who gave so much to this game and to all of us who love it.

There will be a Celebration of Life for Ed on Friday, April 18, 2025 from 5:00-9:00pm at TM Fieldhouse in Lee's Summit, MO 64081. All are invited and welcome.
